Engineers, architects, and builders will benefit from our wealth of practical experience, in-depth product knowledge, and application guidance during the design/build phase to help identify weak areas prone to water intrusion. Methods and modifications developed at the design stage will save money and help keep projects on schedule.
In-progress and post construction inspections will help protect against costly litigation due to lack of knowledge or lack of attention to leak prone areas.
Several different factors can contribute to a breech in a building's defense against water intrusion. The most common are lack of attention to or knowledge of leak prone areas, inferior waterproofing systems, misapplication of materials, and substandard workmanship during the construction phase. These coupled with natural forces such as wind-driven rain, wind load forces, expansion and contraction, and the natural degradation of materials all act together to allow water intrusion.
J & E Specialties, Inc. utilizes premium self-adhered, self-sealing membranes which, unlike traditional paint-on products, creates a uniform and consistent surface capable of withstanding expansion/contraction and bridging of gaps. The self-sealing feature is designed to facilitate penetrations of screws, staples, or nails.
Proper roof component installation and roof design often do not receive the level of attention required in either new construction or re-roofing operations. Unfortunately, these situations lead overwhelmingly to construction litigation which, in most cases could have been avoided with an impartial, professional third party inspection.
From the design process, to in-progress, to post-completion inspections, J&E Specialties can provide a significant deterrent to problems arising from latent defects during construction. Once these areas are identified, J&E will provide a detailed inspection report with the proper references utilizing the Florida Building Code, FRSA/TRI tile installation guidelines, or manufacturer's recommendations as required with photos.
J&E Specialties offers a course (one hour in safety and two hours in general construction) that counts as three hours of continuing education credit. The safety portion is directed toward fall protection with direct references from the OSHA 1926 Subpart M. The general portion emphasizes good roofing practices that will help avoid costly litigation, proper sequence of events, and waterproofing.
